The objectives of standardization are to:

• Maintain the broad spectrum of active constituents;
• Focus on a precise level of marker compound as a measure of quality and consistency;
• Remove contaminants and bulking moisture, sugar and fibre;
• Concentrate the extract to allow maximum activity per dosage unit.
